Super Oxide
Dismutase (SOD): Oxygen is a double edged sword as far as
our health is concerned. It is vital to life, cell respiration
and the production of energy but it also has a dark side.
Cellular metabolism, environmental pollution, radiation,
cigarette smoke, pesticides and herbicides can create free
radical toxins that are disease causing and thought to be a
major factor in the proliferation of cancer cells. Free radicals
are unstable oxygen molecules that are highly reactive and
damaging to healthy cells. Super Oxide Dismutase, or SOD,
neutralizes free radicals that are harmful byproducts of
cellular metabolism and toxic overload. Levels of SOD and other
critical antioxidant enzymes decline with age contributing to
age related disease and decline.
