 Papaya :
Papaya contains several unique proteolytic or protein
digesting enzymes including papain and chymopapain. These
enzymes have proven to lessen inflammation by digesting
inflammatory proteins. The antioxidant nutrients in papaya have
also been shown to be helpful in the prevention of colon cancer.
The fiber in papaya binds to cancer causing toxins in the colon
and keeps them away from healthy cells. Also, the folate in
papaya is needed for the conversion of homocysteine into neutral
amino acid compounds protecting blood vessel walls. High
homocysteine levels are considered to be a significant risk
factor for heart disease or stroke. Papaya boasts high levels of
vitamin C as well as beta carotene, B, D, E, K and the minerals
calcium, iron, phosphorus and potassium. It is also rich in
sodium and magnesium.
