 Ginger :
Ginger has been known for centuries for its healing powers
throughout Asia. Pythagorus was one of its greatest supporters.
Ginger is well known as a carminative, a substance that promotes
the elimination of intestinal gas and is effective at
eliminating other symptoms of gastrointestinal distress. With
over 400 known compounds, ginger is a powerful antioxidant and
possesses numerous therapeutic properties including its ability
to inhibit the formation of inflammatory compounds and has
direct anti- inflammatory effects. Its effectiveness in treating
motion sickness is well known and has been shown to be more
effective than over the counter drugs for reducing dizziness,
nausea, vomiting and cold sweats. Compounds called gingerols are
believed to be effective in reducing pain associated with
osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. One of ginger’s
phenolic compounds 6-gingerol affords powerful free radical
protection. Gingerols may also inhibit the growth of colorectal
cancer cells. |
