 Cranberry (Vaccinum
macrocarpon): Well known for its positive effects on urinary
tract infection, due to its abundance of proanthocyanadins (
compounds that can prevent the adhesion of certain bacteria like
E. Coli to the walls of the urinary tract), cranberry also
contains significant amounts of other antioxidants, polyphenols,
anthocyanadins, glycosides, catechins, various organic acids
(and small amounts of alkaloids) that can help reduce
cholesterol, fight gum disease and stomach ulcers and inhibit
the growth of human breast cancer cells. They also protect
against stroke and heart disease and are anti bacterial.
